Student Discipline

General

All matters of discipline are dealt with in accordance with the University Act. Pursuant to section 61 of the Act, the President of the University has the power to suspend a student and to deal summarily with any matter of student discipline. Student Discipline at the University is governed by the Student Conduct and Discipline section of the UBC Vancouver Calendar and the Student Discipline section of the UBC Okanagan Calendar.

To advise the President on matters of academic discipline at UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan, the President has established the President’s Advisory Committee on Student Discipline. The Rules for the President’s Advisory Committee on Student Discipline set out the procedure to be followed when an allegation of academic misconduct is made against a UBC student.

In accordance with the Rules for the President’s Advisory Committee on Student Discipline, the Office of the University Counsel has prescribed the following forms:

To advise the President on matters of non-academic discipline at UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan, the President has established the President’s UBC Vancouver Non-Academic Misconduct Committee and the President’s UBC Okanagan Non-Academic Misconduct Committee. The Rules for the President’s UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan Non-Academic Misconduct Committees set out the procedure to be followed when an allegation of non-academic misconduct is made against a UBC student.

In accordance with the Rules for the President’s UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan Non-Academic Misconduct Committees, the Office of the University Counsel has prescribed the following forms:

The decision of the President on a matter of student discipline at UBC Vancouver may be appealed to the Senate Committee on Student Appeals on Academic Discipline. The Rules for the Senate Committee on Student Appeals on Academic Discipline set out the procedure to be followed when a UBC Vancouver student wishes to appeal a decision of the President.

The decision of the President on a matter of student discipline at UBC Okanagan may be appealed to the Senate Committee on Appeals of Standing and Discipline. The Rules of the Senate Committee on Appeals of Standing and Discipline set out the procedure to be followed when a UBC Okanagan student wishes to appeal a decision of the President.

An annual report containing summaries of student discipline cases has been published for the following years:
