Policy Consultation – Proposed Amendments to the CV Policy (HR1)

The UBC community is invited to comment on proposed amendments to the CV Policy (HR1) (the “Policy”).

The Policy has been in place for many years without substantive change and the Responsible Executives requested that a Policy Development Committee be convened to review it. The proposed amendments are meant to generally update the Policy to reflect current practices at UBC and to allow for changes to be made in the future. The proposed amendments to the Policy include:

  • Generally updating the Policy to reflect current technology. For example the current Policy has out of date references to paper forms and computer disks.
  • Removing the words “and Publications Record” from the long title of the Policy and from the name of the form to be used by faculty members to submit their curriculum vitae. This will allow more flexibility in what elements and supporting information are included in the UBC Curriculum Vitae form in the future.
  • Providing a more explicit structure through which the Responsible Executives may establish standard formats to be used by faculty members when submitting their curriculum vitae.
  • Clearly stating that faculty members must maintain an up-to-date version of their curriculum vitae using the UBC Curriculum Vitae form.

For further information about the proposed amendments, please see the information package that was provided to the Board of Governors at: https://bog3.sites.olt.ubc.ca/files/2025/09/3_2025.09_Amendments-to-CV-Policy-HR1.pdf.

The proposed amendments are now being published for community consultation and all members of UBC’s community are encouraged to provide their comments. Please submit feedback to the Office of the University Counsel at university.counsel@ubc.ca by October 5, 2025.

Feedback received by the Office of the University Counsel from the UBC community will be provided to the members of the Policy Development Committee for review and consideration. The Policy Development Committee does not provide individual responses to persons submitting feedback. However, the feedback received will be summarized, along with the Policy Development Committee’s response, in a Community Consultation Summary that will be included in the submission materials that are generally shared in open sessions of meetings of the responsible Board committee and the Board of Governors.
